Will Dallas pry K.J. McDaniels from Houston?

The Houston Rockets didn't find much use for K.J. McDaniels after they traded Isaiah Canaan for him at the trade deadline, but the restricted free agent could still contribute in the future.

That is, if the Rockets retain his service. Many teams around the league would love to get their hands on a prospective 3-and-D swingman, especially one as athletic and versatile as McDaniels.

Here's SB Nation's Mavericks blog Mavs Moneyball on the possibility Dallas tries to steal McDaniels away from Houston:

"McDaniels is a young prospect that the Mavericks need to seriously consider. He may not be starting material yet but with the proper grooming he could become one of the better two-way players in the league. Last season, Dallas gambled and poached Parsons away from the Rockets. With Houston expected to make McDaniels a qualifying offer, Mark Cuban needs to have his jet fueled and ready. Acquiring McDaniels could be a great move for the future of the organization."

It's unclear how much money McDaniels will command this summer, as a season-ending injury combined with Houston's unwillingness to insert him into the rotation may have deflated his stock. But McDaniels appears to have a positive future, regardless.

And at the right price, he can be a real steal for any number of teams.
