What's buzzing after Memorial Day?

The long, three-day weekend is over and you undoubtedly did your patriotic duty by watching plenty of sports and cooking out on Memorial Day before being soothed to sleep minutes after the San Antonio Spurs game started.

But maybe you shouldn't have. First off, they completed a pretty epic sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies to reach the NBA Finals — again. And with momentum on their side and plenty of rest for their veteran stars, you have to figure they can put a scare into the Miami Heat should they meet in the Finals.

And here's the kicker: They really aren't boring.

That's just the nightcap; there was plenty of other stuff going on, too.

Two of the WNBA's newest stars faced off in each player's season opener. And what an opener it was. Brittney Griner dunked twice — good for a tie with Candace Parker for the all-time league lead in that category. But Elena Delle Donne stole the show with a 22-point night as her Chicago Sky throttled Griner's Phoenx Mercury, 102-80.

Oh, and that second Griner dunk? Yowza!

Over in the NHL, the Chicago Blackhawks evened up their series — on the road, no less — with the Detroit Red Wings to set up a Game 7 for the ages.

In baseball, MLB teams across the country honored soldiers for Memorial Day, then Keith Hernandez went and offended them with a dumb statement during the Mets broadcast.

Meanwhile, here were some of the other stories buzzing out there in the sports world that you might have missed:

• The battle to be on the cover of the NHL14 video game is down to two goalies.

• A fun little exchange between Lance Armstrong and Betsy Andreu, the wife of his former teammate who he has called a liar repeatedly over the years. OK, maybe fun isn't the right word for it.

• With Ray Lewis retired, the Baltimore Ravens locker room is sure going to be a lot quieter, eh?

• The Boston Bruins are kicking butt in the Stanley Cup playoffs and a new cult hero is a big reason why. Behold, the Legend of Krug.

• Brett Gardner gives us a catch-of-the-year candidate in New York.

• Ricky loves Danica. Danica loves Ricky. Tony loves Danica. Tony definitely does NOT love Ricky.

• Hey, embattled umpire Angel Hernandez got a replay call right!

• Former MLBer Mark Grace says living in Sheriff Joe Arpaio's infamous tent city after a DUI has him scared straight.

• Nevin Shapiro is back at it, saying the NCAA screwed up its investigation of Miami.

• An 18-year-old jockey has an 18-year-old agent. And they are finding out the horse racing game is not child's play.

• Memorial Day hits home for this "reserve" NFL fullback.

* If this is the swan song for Todd Helton, he's not going out the way he'd hoped.

* A former Edmonton Eskimo is finding success in his second career — as a member of WWE faction The Shield.
