Warriors should chase 16-0, not 74

The Golden State Warriors should be chasing a special kind of history next season.

The discussion of whether or not the Golden State Warriors should continue to chase a wins record in the upcoming season has been beaten to death at this point. Everyone knows last year’s run was a one-off deal that can never be duplicated. The team has already made their intentions known about chasing history this upcoming season.

However, there is a special kind of history that the team can chase this season. If the Warriors want to erase last season from the books and create a legacy, they can do it in the playoffs. No team has swept each series and won all four games en route to a championship. That would be a 16-0 mark.

Asking any team to do that is near impossible. The Warriors are not just any team though. This is a team with four superstars on the roster at once. This has been an unprecedented last few years of basketball in the bay and the Warriors have the star power to make something like 16-0 a reality.

It won’t be easy in a tough Western Conference and likely going up against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. After all, the Cavaliers have pushed the Warriors to 13 intense games of basketball the past couple of seasons in the NBA Finals, with the two sides splitting the series.

Adding a guy like Kevin Durant gives them the capability to do something special. It might take some time for the players to get used to playing with one another, but by the time April rolls around, this team should be sharp.

What the Warriors have transcends championships and they already have one. They’re onto the next leg of the journey and that’s creating a legacy. A perfect postseason would ultimately define them more than any regular season record.
