Ty Lawson to enter rehab following DUI arrest
By Gordon Dixon
Earlier this week, Ty Lawson was arrested for the second time this year on charges of driving while under the influence. During a hearing on Friday, Lawson’s attorney said the Nuggets guard will enter a treatment program in Malibu.
“We will be handling the personal needs of the defendant,” said Lawson’s lawyer via ESPN, Harvey Steinberg, who added the program will “ensure his sobriety.”
Lawson will need to spend 30 days in the program or face the risk of having an arrest warrant issued for him by Doris Burd, who presided over Friday’s hearing. As Jesse Paul of the Denver Post adds, Burd wants verification of Lawson checking into the program and wants him to starthome alcohol monitoring upon completion.
While Lawson is in Malibu, there’s a chance the Nuggets could agree to trade him as the Lakers are among teams reportedly interested in acquiring the 27-year-old point guard. With Denver drafting Emmanuel Mudiay No. 7 overall in last month’s NBA Draft and Lawson’s troubles away from the court, his days as a member of the Nuggets may be numbered.
