Tim Duncan talks his car shop, opens up about off-court lifestyle
San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan is a living legend. Comfortably solidified as one of the 10 best basketball players who ever lived, Duncan has two MVP trophies, five championship rings and has cobbled together one of the most impressive careers to date.
He's still sensational nearing 40 years old, with an unparalleled basketball IQ and some of the most (you guessed it) fundamentally sound moves we've ever seen.
But unlike most superstar athletes, Duncan is also notoriously private. Bathing in the spotlight never interested him. That's perfectly fine, but it leaves some of his fans wanting to know who it is they've been cheering for over the past two decades.
In this behind-the-scenes article by Bleacher Report's Jared Zwerling, Duncan reveals as much about himself as ever before, discussing his car shop and how he relaxes away from the basketball court:
This is a fascinating and rare look at a true basketball icon.
At 39 years old, Duncan is still borderline dominant on both ends (particularly defense), but the physical toll of an 82-game season isn't easy, and he won't be around forever. Unless he is, which at this point seems plausible enough.

Where Duncan really lets loose is in the hot-rod car culture. "This is just a different world, and I think that's the fun part about it because I play with control and precision on the court, but out there it's different playing with my cars," he says. "I'm not really a flashy guy anywhere else—I don't dress flashy or anything else—but I like to keep my cars nice and I like to customize them. I can do things a little flashier and a little faster, and with a little bit more thought. This is kind of the release part of basketball."
