The Nets are no longer the least watchable team in the NBA
Every year, Grantland's Zach Lowe comes out with the NBA League Pass Rankings, the hierarchy of most to least watchable teams in the league. And every year, it feels like the Nets are at the bottom of that list.
Who's more fun to watch than the Nets? Uhh...everyone.
Well, not anymore! The Nets are no longer the worst team to watch in the NBA, according to Lowe. Rejoice! The time of celebration is here!
Instead, Lowe has Brooklyn...28th. Here's a snippet of what he had to say about your favorite slow-as-ever team:
Lowe is certainly right about the broadcast team. Ian and the Czar are as good as it gets, and let's not forget about sideline reporter Sarah Kustok, either, who has a vast knowledge of the game and places it alongside her wonderful chemistry with Eagle and Fratello.
Still, the Nets aren't going to bring you a ton of highlights.
Jarrett Jack likes to shot mid-range shots. Enjoy that. Joe Johnson is on the older end. Brook Lopez and Bojan Bogdanovic are below-the-rim players. The bench is filled with journeymen. Thad Young and Markel Brown might be the only two players good for the occasional highlight. But that's it.
But what the heck, at least Lowe didn't have them as low-ranked as the Hornets...
The Nets, once again, sport the league’s best top-to-bottom broadcast experience. Ian Eagle is a god, dropping deadpan gold and fake-feuding with Mike Fratello. The czar brings hoops expertise, dry humor, and delightfully bad stick-figure telestrations of upcoming opponents Eagle deciphers in a warped NBA version of Pictionary — one of the best running gags in broadcast sports. The herringbone court with minimalist black-and-white trim — now with subway-tile-style baseline font! — is a masterpiece.
Andrea Bargnani’s mere presence brings the possibility of a sad-faced, half-bearded blooper, but beyond Bargs, the team isn’t that funny. Hell, Brook Lopez doesn’t even go to Comic-Con anymore! He is shooting 3s now after beasting it over the second half of last season, but his blend of molasses-slow touch and power doesn’t draw eyeballs.
