The Kings' coaching carousel ends with Dave Joerger, right?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Dave Joerger is certainly aware that for the last five years the Sacramento Kings have changed coaches as frequently as responsible car owners change their oil. Owner Vivek Ranadivé and his front office is responsible for the frequent turnover, but some of the blame probably rests on mercurial All-Star center Demarcus Cousins. Compounding the problem is a roster that seems to be built in spite of Cousins instead of being built around him. A massive glut of centers and bigs exists, which will make finding the right pairing with Boogie an early challenge for Joerger.

In contrast to the excessively loaded frontcourt, the backcourt remains problematic. Despite acquiring extra 1st round picks, the team elected not to use any them to address the glaring need at point guard. Starter Darren Collison likely faces a suspension for domestic violence that would leave the team only stop-gap measures for the beginning of the season. If Sacramento starts slowly, will the front office stand firmly behind Joerger? Will Cousins? If the playoff drought extends into its second decade, will they decide it is time to finally hit reset and move Boogie? Or just bring in yet another new coach?
