The Cavaliers are giving fans virtual reality headsets for Game 2
The Cleveland Cavaliers are testing out a strange but interesting new feature for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals: virtual reality goggles that are also...beer holders.
Yep, that's what we're doing now, per Sporting News' Don Muret. In conjuction with Budweiser and tech vendor YinzCam, the Cavs will be giving out a limited supply of cardboard "headsets" as fans filter into Quicken Loans Arena for Wednesday night's game.
The sets are designed to pair up with fans' smart phones to deliver a virtual reality "experience" that's yet to be unveiled, but is probably wading in advertising and lightly peppered with basketball-related notions.
But worry not! Even if it's an advertising ploy, the headsets fold up into a "beer holder," so you can use it as a coozie like a good and righteous American.
Ideally, we'll be able to build on this concept in the future. I want to be able to see J.R. Smith chuck up shots and perform drive-by videobombs in 4-D. The world deserves that at the very least.
Dan is on Twitter. Virtual reality: like actual reality but presented by Sprite.
