That time Steph Curry broke the Pelicans' hearts

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Stephen Curry hit an incredible three against the New Orleans Pelicans in Game 3 of the first round of the 2015 Playoffs.

Stephen Curry is an incredible player. Despite what people who only watched the NBA Finals say, he’s proven to be clutch. He generally steps up when his team needs him, making big plays in high-pressure situations.

The New Orleans Pelicans learned that the hard way. They played the Warriors in the opening round of the 2015 Playoffs and fell down 0-2 before heading home. Game 3 looked like it belonged to Anthony Davis’ squad. The Pelicans were up by 20 going into the fourth quarter.

The Warriors apparently were not amused by the huge lead. And Steph Curry, being the bully he is, didn’t care for the spirit of the city of New Orleans.

Look at how ridiculous that shot is. After the initial miss, he had the presence of mind to run to the corner when Marreese Speights grabbed the miss. It was great awareness by Speights to find the MVP in the corner.

Curry shot the ball about a mile high in order to get it over Davis who was closing out hard. Tyreke Evans was also right in Curry’s face, but it didn’t matter. As soon as he released the shot, he was hit and fell down. He probably should have shot a free throw.

The three tied the game capped off an incredible comeback. The Warriors would go on to win the series and take a commanding lead before finishing the sweep next game. The Pelicans gave them everything they had and it still wasn’t enough for the eventual champs.

New Orleans should have fouled the Warriors on the catch before allowing them to shoot a three. But they didn’t and mistakes come back to haunt you if you make them against Golden State. All Curry needs is a small window and he’ll bury you.
