The team said Babby, a former sports agent, will continue to play an active role in contract negotiations and salary cap management.

Babby thanked owner Robert Sarver for accommodating his wish to reduce his work load.

Babby joined the Suns in August 2010 after a 35-year career as an attorney in Washington, D.C. He will assume his new duties on Aug. 1.

The Suns have failed to make the playoffs the last five seasons.
