Stephen Curry shoots down free agency speculation: I want to be here
NBA MVP Stephen Curry has no intentions of leaving the Golden State Warriors as he enters the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, he told reporters on Tuesday.
“I want to be back here,” Curry said. “I like playing here and that's it.”
This upcoming season will mark the final year of his four-year, $44 million deal. He is the fourth-highest paid player on the Warriors as he is expected to earn $12 million this year.
Golden State added forward Kevin Durant in the off-season as he inked a two-year, $54 million contract. Draymond Green and Klay Thompson will also earn more in their contract than Curry in 2016-2017.
Curry is coming off a second consecutive season in which he won the league's MVP award. Last season, he averaged 30.1 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds in the regular season. The Warriors won a record 73 wins in the regular season but lost the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games. The Warriors became the first team to lose after leading the series 3–1 in the finals.
