Sixers add undrafted Christian Wood on partially-guaranteed deal
Christian Wood went undrafted, but has found an NBA home in Philadelphia for potentially the next few seasons.
Wood agreed to a deal with the Sixers, his agent announced on Twitter. Other reports, including one from Jake Pavorsky of Liberty Ballers, have it as a partially-guaranteed deal that could go up to four seasons.
These aren't great contracts for rookies to sign, because they're usually non-guaranteed (especially in years three and four), and they give the team an unreasonable amount of time holding the player's rights at minimum money. If the player turns out to be better than expected, they're locked into minimum-level salaries for up to four seasons.
But undrafted players can't be that choosy, and overall this is a chance for Wood to make his mark at the NBA level, while earning at least a portion of guaranteed money in his first season.
In two years at UNLV, the 6'11" Wood averaged 15.7 points and 10 rebounds per contest. He played at the Las Vegas Summer League for the Rockets, where he averaged 6.5 points and four rebounds in four appearances.
