Shane Larkin: Knicks offense 'wasn't the best system for me'
Shane Larkin was a round peg. The Knicks offense was a triangular hole. Just knowing those facts, last season wasn't going to work considering how uncomfortable the former Knicks point guard and current Nets floor general was.
Now though, Larkin does appear far more cozy playing across the river in Brooklyn. He's been far more effective, too. He's happy to tell that, via Brian Lewis of the New York Post:
Larkin is averaging 7.0 points and 3.7 assists per game on the season. More impressively, he's shooting 47 percent from the field and a whopping 49 percent from long range. On a Nets squad without much three-point shooting, Larkin has been the most consistent shooter from beyond the arc.
Larkin isn't wrong in his comments, either. The Knicks barely ever let him run pick-and-roll, and last year's offense ran the league amount of screen-and-roll of any team in the NBA. Lionel Hollins, on the other hand, is calling for far more ball-screens than Larkin ever saw playing for the orange and blue. That's just the way the Nets offense operates. And if Larkin feels more comfortable playing like that, then more power to him.
“I’m in a pick-and-roll system my third year,’’ said Larkin. “My first year I was in a pick-and-roll system, but I was coming off a broken ankle, so I missed time with that, didn’t get a preseason, so I was just kind of learning on the fly.
“Last year wasn’t the best system for me, that year went however it went. And this year I feel like I’m growing every single game and being more comfortable out there and just playing my game. I feel like it’s a good fit.’’
