Santa Cruz Warriors Start 5-Game Road Trip w/ Loss v. Reno
Santa Cruz Warriors lost 100-84 on the road Sunday night against the Reno Bighorns.
The Santa Cruz Warriors (2-4) failed to start their 5-game road trip off strong, losing 100-84 to the Reno Bighorns (2-5) on Sunday night. They hit the road to New York to play the Westchester Knicks (4-1) in a Wednesday morning matchup.
Elgin Cook was incredibly impressive off the bench for Santa Cruz, leading all scorers with 27 points on 10-for-16 shooting. He added four rebounds, one steal and three blocks, as well. Cameron Jones also scored in double-digits, tallying 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Scott Wood had a great shooting night for the Warriors, dropping in 12 points and five rebounds on 4-for-6 shooting from the field, 4-for-5 from behind the arc. Despite not being able to score in double-digits for the first time this season, Phil Pressey found other ways to be effective, contributing seven points, five rebounds, 10 assists, and three steals.
As for Golden State Warriors assignee Damian Jones, the rookie center unfortunately got into foul trouble early, limiting him to just 13 minutes of play. He fouled out in the fourth quarter with 6:23 left in the game. He posted four points (2-3 FG, 0-3 FT), one rebound, one assist, and four blocks.
Malachi Richardson paced the Bighorns with 24 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Skal Labissiere followed that up with 18 points, four rebounds and three steals. Guard Lamar Patterson tallied 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block, while
Mark Tyndale recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go with his six assists and three steals, while Kadeem Jack notched 11 points and seven rebounds. Special shoutout goes to Jamal Branch, who added in 12 points, including a nifty double-clutch scoop layup following a one-handed fake behind-the-back pass à la Rajon Rondo.
