Report: The Paul Pierce-to-the-Clippers rumors continue
Paul Pierce is still an effective NBA player. Somehow, the dude can still ball, as exemplified by his awesome playoff run with the Washington Wizards.
Now, though, it appears Pierce may be leaving Washington. We've been hearing the Pierce-to-the-Clippers rumors for a few weeks. Apparently, they're picking up even more.
From Robert Morales of InsideSoCal.com:
"The Clippers remain interested in bringing small forward Paul Pierce to Los Angeles, a league source told us today, but that Pierce would first have to opt out of his current contract with the Washington Wizards, which he can do."
Pierce is due to make more than $5 million next season after signing for the full mid-level exception last summer. If he were to come to L.A., he would presumably have to take less money, since the full mid-level exception almost definitely will not be available to a Clippers team with loads of salary on the books for 2015-16. The Clips will most likely end up with the taxpayer mid-level exception of about $3.7 million. Pierce would have to take that deal or a minimum one to come play for his former coach Doc Rivers in Los Angeles.
