Report: Smith, Knicks agree on deal

The New York Knicks have their star sixth man back.

J.R. Smith — the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year — has agreed to stay with the Knicks on a four-year deal worth approximately $25 million, according to the New York Daily News.

Smith averaged 18.1 points and 5.3 rebounds — both career highs — last season in New York. But the explosive shooting guard struggled badly in the playoffs, scoring 14.3 points on 33 percent shooting from the field.

Smith declined the player option in his contract in June and opted to become a free agent.

Smith's decision was not a surprise given that he was scheduled to make $2.9 million next season. After his breakout season, it appears he'll make more than that on the open market.
