Report: Scott Skiles 'progressing toward deal' with the Magic

The Scott Skiles-to-the-Magic rumors are already getting old. Is this happening or not?

Well, apparently it's inching toward the finish line. That's according to Yahoo Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, who has more:

Skiles is formerly the coach of the Bucks, Suns and Bulls. He is barely over .500 in his career, posting a 443-433 and has earned a reputation of a coach who grates on his players over time. With all the great coaches out there, and with Tom Thibodeau's name freshly on the market, it's a wonder why Skiles appears to be the Magic's guy. But by all accounts, he is, and it appears he'll be joining the fourth team of his coaching career.

Magic officials are convinced that Skiles is the best choice to deliver a young roster into playoff contention and have moved to the cusp of contract negotiations, league sources said.

Conversations between the Magic and Skiles will continue on Thursday in Orlando, league sources said.

Skiles has been the preferred choice of Orlando ownership, which has been fond of him since his playing days with the Magic in the 1990s. Skiles fits the candidate profile that general manager Rob Hennigan outlined for the search: a successful head-coaching résumé that includes strong emphasis on upgrading Orlando's defense and accountability.

Before turning full attention back to Skiles, Hennigan met with Los Angeles Clippers assistant Mike Woodson in Southern California over the weekend, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
