Report: Robinson interested in football

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Nate Robinson said he is interested in swapping his basketball sneakers for a pair of football cleats, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

In an interview with basketball magazine, SLAM, Robinson revealed he is considering trying out for the NFL.

"I might go play football," Robinson said. "Do something that nobody's tried to do."

Robinson, 27, was a three-sport star in high school, excelling at basketball, football and track. He attended the University of Washington to play football, but suited up for the Huskies just one season before giving his full attention to basketball.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound guard led Washington to two NCAA Tournament berths, including a Sweet 16 appearance. He was drafted 21st overall in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns before being traded to the New York Knicks.

Robinson played nearly five seasons in New York before being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2010.

The three-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion was traded to the Thunder in February in a deal that included Kendrick Perkins in exchange for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic.

But with the NBA lockout just getting underway and the NFL lockout reportedly nearing its completion, Robinson said he is considering putting on the pads again.

"If I can, I would love to play football a little bit," Robinson said. "I've been doing a little bit of training."

"Why wouldn't you want to have an NBA player that can play football try out?" said Robinson, who added he would play basketball in Europe if the NFL lockout is not resolved. "That's a lot of publicity for your organization."
