Report: Pelicans were close to deal with Seth Curry before Kings 'swooped in'
The New Orleans Pelicans were reportedly very interested in bringing summer league standout guard Seth Curry onto their NBA roster for next season, as signs indicated over the weekend. But the Sacramento Kings trumped the Pelicans with a better offer and the chance at more playing time, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein:
New Orleans was likely offering Curry a two-year deal with only the first year fully guaranteed. And the Pelicans have plenty of guards, depending on whether Norris Cole comes back next season. But that question remains unanswered; Curry would have been a solid bit of insurance off the bench, and New Orleans had hoped it could develop the younger brother of the NBA MVP into a part of its rotation.
Missing out on Curry probably won't doom the Pelicans, nor will it have much of an impact either way. But it's never fun when you lose out on a player to another team at the last minute.
