Report: Nets may make a run at Thomas Robinson

Published Jul. 2, 2015 3:48 p.m. ET

The Nets tried to sign Thomas Robinson when he was waived midseason this past year. Brooklyn figured he would pass through waivers and reached an agreement with the former Trail Blazers to come to Barclays Center.

But the 76ers ruined everything. The Sixers claimed Robinson off waivers and the Kansas product ended up heading to Philly for the rest of the season. Now that he is a free agent, Tim Bontemps of the New York Post says he's an option for the Nets on the open market:

Robinson averaged 5.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Blazers and Sixers this past season.

One potential option is Thomas Robinson, whom the Nets have had interest in for some time.

Robinson, 24, appeared set to join the Nets in February after he was waived by Portland, only for the 76ers to claim him off waivers instead. But the Nets certainly have ample playing time available behind Lopez and Young, given that their current big men under contract are Cory Jefferson (partially guaranteed contract), Earl Clark (non-guaranteed contract) and Chris McCullough, one of their two first-round picks, but who is out until January with a torn ACL.

Robinson averaged 5.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in 54 combined games with the Trail Blazers and Sixers last season, and has averages of 5.1 points and 4.8 rebounds for his three-year career. He was the No. 5 pick in the 2012 draft, and the Nets were interested in him that spring before losing their pick to Portland.
