Report: Melvin Hunt is the frontrunner for Nuggets coach

Published Jun. 1, 2015 1:34 p.m. ET

Now that Alvin Gentry is the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, it appears as if Melvin Hunt is the leading name to become the next head coach of the Nuggets, according to Jared Zwerling.

Also from a source: Melvin Hunt is currently the front-runner for the Nuggets' coaching job. Mike D'Antoni has not interviewed with Denver.

Though Hunt may not be as flashy of a name as Mike D'Antoni (whom the Nuggets were reportedly interested in, but have yet to interview), he's the right man for the job. He scrapped Brian Shaw's system and re-implemented the one that made the Nuggets so successful in the first place, endearing him to the players and reviving them, if briefly. The question will be whether he can keep them for an entire season.
