Report: Mayo, Allen fight over card game

Published Jan. 4, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Memphis Grizzlies players OJ Mayo and Tony Allen had a bust-up on a team charter flight after a card game got ugly, Yahoo! Sports reported early Wednesday.

The incident occurred Sunday night, when Allen asked Mayo to settle a debt from the game and Mayo became "increasingly belligerent," the report said, citing sources.

Allen went to the restroom, only to return to find Mayo mouthing off at him.

Mayo then reportedly got in Allen's face and Allen hit him. Teammates quickly broke up the scuffle.

“Tony warned (Mayo) to watch his mouth, and (Mayo) wouldn’t do it and just kept going off on him,” a source told Yahoo! Sports.

The Grizzlies issued a statement confirming the altercation and said: "The club considers the matter closed."

Mayo missed Tuesday night's 110-105 win over Oklahoma City with bronchitis, with Allen scoring 19 points after replacing him in the lineup.
