Report: Lakers meet with Dunleavy about head coaching position
Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak met with Mike Dunleavy Sr. about the team's head coaching position on Wednesday morning, according to a Yahoo Sports report.
After getting the No. 7 overall pick in Tuesday's NBA Draft lottery, the Lakers plan to start their aggresive search for a new head coach and it appears Dunleavy has emerged as an immediate candidate for the position.
Dunleavy, 60, won't be new to the Los Angeles market as a head coach if he ends up filling the position. During his 17-year coaching career he has stints with both the Lakers and Clippers, so he will be familiar with the big-market expectations and stresses like dealing with coaching the Lakers' franchise player, Kobe Bryant.
Dunleavy's most recent coaching gig ended when he resigned as the Clippers' head coach in 2010. He has also coached the Trail Blazers and Milwaukee Bucks.
