Report: Jury selected, trial set to start in Thabo Sefolosha case

While the Atlanta Hawks will get back to action with their first preseason game later this week, one member of the team had bigger issues on his plate on Monday. Jury selection is complete in the trial of Thabo Sefolosha, according to a report from the New York Times.

Sefolosha is facing several charges alleging he obstructed governmental administration and resisted arrest on the night that fellow NBA player Chris Copeland was stabbed in a fight outside a New York City bar. Sefolosha alleges that he suffered unnecessarily rough treatment from the NYPD. During the incident, Sefolosha suffered a broken right fibula and ligament damage.

The Times reports that both race relations and the legitimacy of police testimony were factors in the jury selection process, which lasted for approximately 90 minutes. The selected jurors include four women and two men, according to the report.

Opening statements and testimony are set to begin on Tuesday.
