Report: Iverson's wife files for divorce

Published Jun. 16, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

The wife of former NBA superstar Allen Iverson has filed for divorce for the second time in the past 15 months, TMZ reported Thursday.

Tawanna Iverson, who filed for divorce last year but rescinded it, called the marriage "irretrievably broken" in a filing Monday in Fulton County, Georgia.

In the filing, Iverson's wife is seeking sole custody of the couple's five children, as well as child support and alimony payments, and her share of the couple's assets.

Iverson, 36, signed a two-year, $4 million contract last October with the Turkish club Besiktas after no NBA teams offered him a contract. He was plagued by injuries in his first season overseas and only played in 10 games.

The 11-time All-Star and four-time NBA scoring champion said last week he hopes to secure an invitation to an NBA training camp this summer, with his sights set on returning to the league next season.

But the potential roadblock to that plan is the looming NBA lockout, which would go into effect July 1 if a new collective-bargaining agreement is not reached.
