Report: Eric Gordon exercises $15.5 million player option with Pelicans
A familiar face will be back with the New Orleans Pelicans next season, as the AP reports that Eric Gordon has exercised his $15.5 million player option for next season.
When he's healthy, Gordon is one of the best young shooting guards in the NBA. Unfortunately, he's battled injuries lately, appearing in just 61 games for New Orleans in 2014-15. His per-game numbers hit a low when he was on the court, although some of that was undoubtedly Gordon deferring to Anthony Davis. But on the bright side for the Pelicans, Gordon flashed an improved 3-point stroke last season, demonstrating that he can help space the floor around Davis and point guard Jrue Holiday.
Gordon's ability to handle the ball makes him an exceptional piece, as he can take over as point guard when Holiday rests, and he also gives the Pelicans something analogous to a two-point-guard lineup without sacrificing size at the second guard position.
