Report: Dragic planned to re-sign with Heat with or without Wade
There was a stretch this offseason when things were a little bit scary for the Miami Heat and their fans, as the future of Dwyane Wade (and perhaps the Heat) hung on the balance.
Part of the uncertainty was whether Goran Dragic would be back in Miami, too. But according to the Heat point guard, that was never really a question, as he told Dan Le Batard on ESPN Radio that he had planned to re-sign with Miami regardless of Wade's decision:
"I would, yes, but I was hoping he was coming back," Dragic said. "When I found out he was going to re-sign, I was really happy."
Dragic also told Le Batard that he didn't even speak with other teams, as the Heat were the first team to reach out to him:
"Basically Miami Heat was the first option. Then they called me first. Pat was talking and saying what kind of team it was going to be … and I said I need to be on this wagon."
Apparently Chris Bosh isn't the only one excited about the future in Miami. On paper, this team definitely has all of the pieces to compete for a championship. Now, we wait until October to see if it can all come together.
