Report: Bogut open to playing in Australia before he retires

Published Aug. 13, 2015 4:39 p.m. ET

Andrew Bogut is open to playing in Australia's NBL after he finishes playing in the NBA, according to Yahoo Sports New Zealand.

Bogut, who is currently playing with the Australian national team in the FIBA Olympic qualifier, is beginning to think about his post-NBA career, which could also include purchasing a stake in an NBL team.

"Definitely a pipe dream, fairytale story, would be to play a season in Australia before I retire," Bogut said.

"But it all depends on the body and how that feels, and at what age and mindset I'm in. I definitely wouldn't see anything wrong with coming back here and trying to help the game that brought a lot to me and my life."

But don't worry just yet, Warriors fans. Bogut isn't going to retire early -- he still has two years left on his contract with the Warriors -- and might consider extending his NBA career beyond 2017.

"My main goal right now is play out the two years on my Golden State deal, get to Rio and see what we can do there," Bogut said. "Then I'll re-evaluate whether I push on for a couple more years in the NBA, or whatever."
