Ray Allen out with back spasms

Published Feb. 11, 2010 12:41 a.m. ET

The Boston Celtics scratched shooting guard Ray Allen from the lineup for the game Wednesday night against the New Orleans Hornets.

The Celtics say Allen, who averages 16 points a game, has been bothered by back spams.

The Hornets, meanwhile, say rookie shooting guard Marcus Thornton is ready to return from a lower back bruise that has sidelined him for three games.

Hornets coach Jeff Bower says Morris Peterson will remain the starter at shooting guard, with Thornton coming off the bench. Thornton was the starter before his injury and has been averaging 10.9 points.
