Postgame punch busts Amar'e's hand

Published Apr. 30, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Knicks power forward Amar'e Stoudemire cut his hand punching something in the locker room after Monday's playoff loss to the Heat, FOXSports.com's Bill Reiter reported.

Yahoo! Sports reported that Stoudemire punched the glass area that enclosed a fire extinguisher, citing sources.

Paramedics rushed into the locker rooms to tend to the six-time All-Star, with Knicks guard JR Smith saying he believed Stoudemire received stitches.

Several media reports said Stoudemire left the stadium with his hand heavily bandaged and his arm in a sling.

Knicks center Tyson Chandler said he expected Stoudemire would at least miss Game 3 in New York on Thursday.

Stoudemire, who had 18 points and seven rebounds Monday, reportedly punched the glass in frustration as the Knicks lost 104-94 in Miami to fall into a 2-0 hole in the first-round playoff series.

The team confirmed that Stoudemire suffered a laceration to his left hand and was being treated but interim Knicks coach Mike Woodson would not elaborate on the incident.

"How severe it is I don't know. I'm trying to learn more about it. That's it. Let's talk about the game," he told reporters.

Dwyane Wade led Miami with 25 points, Chris Bosh added 21, and LeBron James had 19 points, seven boards and nine assists.
