Police: Teen shot shortly after Cavs championship parade
A 13-year-old girl was shot twice in the leg shortly after the Cavaliers victory parade in downtown Cleveland, according to local police.
Cleveland police said a suspect who was not the shooter was taken in custody. According to Cleveland.com, the shooting occurred near Tower City as people were waiting on public transportation after the Cavs celebration.
Officials have not revealed a possible motive for the shooting. The incident puts a damper on a joyous day in Cleveland, which celebrated its first pro title in 52 years. An estimated 1 million people attended an otherwise peaceful rally.
Lauren Harrison, who was inside the Euclid Arcade charging her phone when the shooting happened, spoke to Cleveland.com.
"We heard screams, and a couple of people thought maybe the players came through," she said. "People looked nervous, scared. I found my daughter and the cops came running through...people were running up the steps to the [hotel] and tripping over each other."
