Pistons beat Wizards in preseason

Greg Monroe scored 18 points and the Detroit Pistons beat the Washington Wizards 99-96 in a preseason game Tuesday night.

The Pistons led 65-43 after making seven 3-pointers in the first half but the Wizards gradually trimmed the lead and tied the game at 83 midway through the fourth quarter on Kevin Seraphin's turnaround jumper.

Kyle Singler and Chauncey Billups hit consecutive 3s as the Pistons (2-4) took the lead for good. Washington's Glen Rice missed a 3-point heave as the buzzer sounded.

Bradley Beal had 17 points and Seraphin added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Wizards (1-5), who lost their third straight preseason game.

The Pistons, who lost forward Charlie Villanueva at halftime to a sore back, got 14 points from Singler, 13 from Will Bynum and 13 rebounds from Andre Drummond.
