Pierre Jackson agrees to four-year deal with Philadelphia
After tearing his Achilles at last year's Orlando Summer League, it looked like Pierre Jackson's NBA career might've ended before it began.
But earlier this week, Jackson's fortunes officially took a turn for the better. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey, Jackson signed a four-year non-guaranteed deal with the Sixers on Tuesday:
"The Sixers acquired Jackson, a former Baylor star, in a 2014 draft-night trade , but he ruptured his right Achilles tendon last summer in the Orlando Pro Summer League. The team released him in September but still gave him a $400,000 deal for his rehabilitation. 'Obviously I was a devastated when I got hurt," said Jackson, who finished with nine points Wednesday in a 75-68 loss to the Brooklyn Nets in the team's summer playoff opener. 'But...you know, [coach] Brett Brown and [general manager Sam Hinkie] communicated with me throughout the whole season in just keeping my faith up.'"
The specifics of Jackson's contract aren't clear, but it's assumed Hinkie gave him an extremely team-friendly deal that could look like a huge bargain if Jackson shows he's able to score efficiently at the NBA level.
Another low-risk, high-reward signing for Philadelphia.
