Pelicans hold off Wizards, 93-89 at Rupp Arena

Anthony Davis scored 16 points and blocked Bradley Beal's game-tying drive attempt with 11.9 seconds left to help the New Orleans Pelicans remain unbeaten with a 93-89 exhibition victory over the Washington Wizards on Saturday night.

Playing before 14,980 happy to welcome the Kentucky product back to Rupp Arena, Davis contributed a couple of key fourth-quarter baskets that helped the Pelicans (6-0) rally from a 72-66 deficit. He finished with four rebounds and two blocks.

Jrue Holiday had 19 points to lead four New Orleans players in double figures. Eric Gordon added 16 points and Anthony Morrow 15 on a night the Pelicans shot 41.5 percent and committed 24 turnovers.

Beal scored 13 of his 30 points in the third period for the Wizards (1-4) and was hoping to force overtime when Davis denied his attempted layup. John Wall, another former Wildcat, added 16 points and Al Harrington 13 for Washington.
