Pelicans' Davis not afraid to rip teammates who need motivation

The New Orleans Pelicans' Anthony Davis has been doing plenty of leading by example during his first three NBA seasons. He finished fifth in MVP voting last year, and averaged 24.4 points and 10.2 rebounds while leading the league in blocked shots for the second consecutive season.

But as he's entering his fourth campaign, Davis may look to get more vocal with teammates -- and he expects the same from them in return.

"I’m very comfortable [leading]," Davis said, in an interview with SLAM. "They know I have the best interest for them and I’m going to try and do whatever it takes to win. If you have to get on a guy and curse him out to get him going then that’s what you have to do to win. The same goes for me. If someone sees me slacking, they should do the same thing to me to get me going. We kind of have that mutual respect. As long as you respect a man, you can tell him whatever you want to tell him in order to help him get better."

For the Pelicans to take the next step in their development, Davis will need to become the consummate superstar. Fortunately for the franchise, it appears as though he's ready to take on that challenge.
