Paul: Doc pushing and motivating me

BY foxsports • October 1, 2013

When Doc Rivers met with Chris Paul for the first time, the new Clippers coach ...

Told his franchise player it was his team? Asked his advice on running the offense? Offered him a few tips as a former All-Star point guard?

Nope. He put Paul in his place like he was a rookie. And CP3 wouldn't have it any other way.

“As professional athletes, you always want someone to push you and motivate you,” Paul told Yahoo! Sports. “The first meeting I had with Doc, he pretty much told me I wasn’t anything. He told me I hadn’t done anything in this league, and he was right. You don’t always want somebody that’s going to tell you what you want to hear.”

Said Paul: “One thing I learned about Doc is he is going to expect you to do certain things. He’s not going to baby us. He is going to treat us like men and he is going to give us that opportunity.”

Rivers and the Clippers will open the season on Oct. 29 against the Lakers on TNT.

The Clippers play 10 of their first 16 games at Staples Center, with their home opener set for Oct. 31 against Golden State. Twenty-nine of the team's games will be nationally televised, the second-most in franchise history.
