Patty Mills saved San Antonio's season
The Spurs were dead in the water. Tony Parker was ruled out with a strained right Achilles, Manu Ginobili had just fouled out and Tim Duncan was on his last breath with five fouls of his own.
But if there's one thing we've learned about San Antonio, it's that they never, ever, go quietly into the night.
In stepped backup point guard Patty Mills, who was a monster when his team needed him most, according to San Antonio Express-News reporter Dan McCarney.
"Sidelined by shoulder surgery and then ineffective for much of his fourth season with the Spurs, Mills picked an ideal time to recapture the game-busting form of his breakout 2013-14 campaign. He added a jump shot early in the fourth before hitting a pair of free throws to knot the score at 94-all with 8.6 seconds left."
Mills dropped a game-high eight points in the critical overtime period, reminding everyone who watched last year's NBA Finals just how special he is.
Game 3 is Friday night.
