The week will begin with a Jr. Pacers skills challenge for boys and girls, ages 9-14, at the Benjamin Harrison YMCA. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their fitness through dribbling, shooting, rebound and fitness competitions in the sport of basketball.

The program is free for all Jr. Pacers members and organizations with two different age groups competing for prizes.  In addition, the young players will have a chance to win game tickets, autographed jerseys and on-court recognition at a Pacers game.

Wednesday, October 19

Pacers mascot Boomer will conduct his famous “Boomer’s Boot Camp” at Windsor Village Park (Indy Parks) at 6510 East 25th St., at 11:00 a.m. Boomer will be joined by two Pacemates as he instructs all participants on proper food choices and exercise techniques.

Each Boot Camp participant will receive a Fit Like a Pro poster and sticker and have the opportunity to win other Pacers prizes through fitness quizzes and challenges throughout the event.

Friday, October 21 and Monday, October 24

Led by Pacers legend Darnell “Dr. Dunk” Hillman, a Jr. Pacers Clinic will be held on two different dates at two different sites — at the Concord Neighborhood Center (1310 S. Meridian St.) at 4:00 p.m., on Friday, Octover 21 and at Bankers Life Fieldhouse at 6:00 p.m., on Monday, October 24.

Joining Hillman on October 21 will be former Pacers forward Scot Pollard and on October 24 will be current Pacers star Al Jefferson.

Each clinic is open to boys and girls, ages 6-14 with a goal of not only providing skill and instruction in the game of basketball, but also discipline, character and sportsmanship.

Completed Events

The Pacers have already executed a few initiatives to start the program.

On October 6, the team hosted Jr. Pacers Night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse where it recognized Jr. Pacers members and coaches, and provided team giveaways.  The Pacers also played host to two exhibition games featuring the RHI Wheelchair Pacers team.

In addition, on October 10, Pacers coach Nate McMillan and his staff led a clinic for 200 area youth coaches.
