New York Knicks sign Ricky Ledo to 10-day contract

The New York Knicks have announced the signing of former Dallas Mavericks guard Ricky Ledo to a 10-day contract. From the team's official announcement:

Ledo has spent this season in the D-League playing for the Texas Legends, for whom he averaged 15.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists. Now, he heads to New York with a legitimate chance to find a role for the rest of the season.

At 14-53, the Knicks are just shooting fish in a barrell—or are they trying to find a needle in a haystack? Whichever it is, New York is in a position to take on as many young players as it can to see if there's any hidden talent to develop. Ledo may be the right guy on which to take that risk.

The Providence product never actually played in college due to eligibility issues and entered the 2013 draft after just one season at school. He may have been a second-round pick, and his career may not have amounted to much so far, but let's not forget that, according to Rivals.com's well-respected recruit rankings, Ledo was the sixth-best high schooler heading into his freshman year at Providence.

There's obviously talent there, as anyone who's seen him play can learn. But there's also this:

Yep, that's not a great tweet to have on your résumé. And it could be why Ledo has struggled to find any semblance of a home in the NBA.

He's still just 22 years old. And it's a 10-day deal. If he doesn't work in New York, he'll be gone in a week-and-a-half. If he does, the Knicks could have themselves another Langston Galloway. Something short of that is still valuable. So, why not take a chance on Ricky?
