NBPA exec reportedly says Game 1 conditions "completely unacceptable"

The fallout from Game 1 of the NBA Finals continued Friday.

NBPA acting executive director Ron Klempner said the playing conditions were "completely unacceptable" during the Spurs' 110-95 win over the Heat on Thursday.

"The playing conditions were for tonight's game were completely unacceptable from the opening tip," Klempner told the Bloomberg News. "In a situation like this, there needs to be more open communication before a decision is made that could potentially put players at risk."

The air conditioning unit at AT&T Center in San Antonio stopped working, causing temperatures to soar into the 90s on the court. The heat affected LeBron James the most, forcing him to cramp up and miss major stretches of the fourth quarter in which the Spurs rallied to take a 1-0 series lead.

"Once the game starts, it's in the hands of the referees," NBA President of Basketball Operations Rod Thorn said. "Had the referees felt at any time or had I felt at any time -- I was sitting the second row midcourt -- were such that the game shouldn't be continued, then they would have come over and said something to me. Never did, I never said anything to them regarding the fact that the game should be cancelled."
