NBA Rumors: Cavs Expected To Sign Mario Chalmers When Healthy
NBA Rumors: The Cleveland Cavaliers will likely sign veteran backup point guard Mario Chalmers when he completely recovers from injury
With the loss of Matthew Dellavedova in free agency and Mo Williams to retirement, there’s no question that the Cleveland Cavaliers have a void to fill when it comes to their backup point guard.
Problem is, the NBA season is a week and a half away and they still haven’t addressed it. Maybe, there’s a reason why.
And no I’m not talking about their confidence and belief in Kay Felder. Perhaps the Cleveland Cavaliers are just waiting for one of LeBron James’ old buddies to get healthy, Mario Chalmers.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, there’s strong belief that the Cavs will ultimately sign Chalmers to backup Kyrie Irving when he gets healthy – which is probably sooner rather than later.

…rumbles persist that Cleveland has strong interest in reuniting LeBron James with his old Miami teammate Mario Chalmers when the veteran point guard is sufficiently healthy to return from Achilles surgery in March.
Recently, it was reported that Chalmers is roughly a month away from being completely healthy. Chalmers is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered during the latter portion of last season.
If healthy, Chalmers would be a solid addition for any team look to beef up their point guard depth. After being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies last season, Chalmers averaged a career-high 11 points, four assists and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 42 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range. Perhaps most importantly, he provided the team with a much-needed veteran backup. He also filled in nicely for Mike Conley when he was injured.
If nothing else, Chalmers can help stabilize any team’s second unit, which is exactly what the Cleveland Cavaliers actually need.
Currently without a backup lead guard, the Cavs are hoping that Kay Felder, a second round pick, is ready to contribute as a rookie. Quite frankly, that’s a tall task to ask.
Chalmers to the Cavs makes a lot of sense. And it might just be a matter of time before it happens.
