Mario Chalmers on Dwyane Wade's possible departure: 'Just sit back and wait'

While NBA teams often have no problem throwing around the word "family," it's also true that each player must make the best decision for him as an individual when it comes to contracts and picking teams in free agency. And in that vein, Miami Heat guard Mario Chalmers says that while he and Dwyane Wade have spoken quite a bit this offseason, he doesn't know whether Wade will opt into or out of his contract -- or if he'll be back in Miami.

"I've been talking to D-Wade. Me and him are very close," Chalmers said, according to the Sun-Sentinel. "But we really haven't been talking about basketball. It's just about life stuff. And right now, we're just focusing on life and the kids."

"I'm not even thinking about that," he added on the notion of a Heat team without Wade. "Right now, at this point, you can't say nothing about it, you can't do anything about it. So, just sit back and wait."

That's easy for Chalmers to say; it's his job to be prepared for anything that might come his way as a point guard. Heat fans might not be able to rest quite so easily.

Beyond commenting on Wade's status, Chalmers also talked about his recent knee surgery, saying that it had been an issue "throughout the whole year," and he gave the most honest explanation in NBA history for why he chose to have surgery now:

"I feel like right now is the perfect time for me to go in and get and get it cleaned out especially going into a contract year, and a big year for us as the Heat."

Get that money, Super Mario!
