Lakers' Scott, Kupchak do not anticipate a busy trade deadline
The Los Angeles Lakers head into Thursday's trade deadline with the second-worst record in the NBA. Kobe Bryant's final season has been a nightmare, and it's almost impossible for any trades to rectify their short-term failure:
That doesn't mean the Lakers shouldn't desperately try to cash out on some/all of their veterans. Lou Williams and Brandon Bass are two productive players on relatively valuable contracts who can fit into almost any system.
Can the Lakers get a pair of second-round picks for their service? Perhaps.
Moving on, Roy Hibbert and Nick Young are two more vets the Lakers should aggressively shop. Unfortunately, their market is (presumably) non-existent, and it's unlikely they're able to find a partner who's willing to surrender anything of value in a deal.
But they should still try. Those four veterans are currently clogging up a rotation that should belong to D'Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Larry Nance Jr., Anthony Brown and the rest of L.A.'s young talent.
It'd be smart for the Lakers to move on from the older guys as quickly as they can, not stand pat and sit on their hands.
