LA Clippers to host 2017 training camp in Hawaii

The LA Clippers have announced that they will be heading to Hawaii next year to host their training camp for the 2017-18 NBA season.

The LA Clippers are heading for some sun when it comes to their training camp for the 2017-18 NBA season. To make quite a difference from UC Irvine where they trained prior to this season, the team has announced the Clippers will be heading to Hawaii in 2017.

In fall next year, the Clippers will be training on the University of Hawaii campus, working with their veterans, new rookies, and any camp invites Doc Rivers wants to bring onboard to try out. Nothing came of Xavier Munford or Dorell Wright this year, but maybe there will at least be a slightly better chance for the right player to crack a spot at the end of the roster.

The Clippers could look very different after next summer’s free agency, but even if guys like Chris Paul and Blake Griffin stick around (and it seems likely they will), Paul Pierce is guaranteed to departed when he retires following this season’s end.

The team announced the intentions of owner Steve Ballmer, who wants the Clippers to train in Hawaii to expand the team’s brand in a new location.

“We can’t wait for the Clippers training camp in Hawai‘i and we’re working closely with the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority to showcase the beauty of the state,” Clippers President of Business Operations Gillian Zucker said. “This unique partnership is another step in Steve Ballmer’s vision of expanding the Clippers brand, while also providing our fans in Hawai‘i with the opportunity to see NBA basketball live.”

To further the Clippers’ growing fan base, which is only helped by their hot 16-6 start to the new season, they will look to engage Hawaiian communities.

“This marketing partnership is ideal for both of our futures,” Leslie Dance, HTA Vice President of Marketing and Product Development said. “The Clippers are one of the NBA’s hottest teams with a growing fan base in Hawai‘i and across the Pacific, and the Hawaiian Islands is a favorite destination for travelers from southern California.”
