Knicks' Anthony sits out vs. Thunder with sprained left ankle

Published Dec. 25, 2013 12:00 a.m. ET

Carmelo Anthony missed the New York Knicks' game against Oklahoma City because of a sprained left ankle, unable to take part in a Christmas Day showdown with Kevin Durant.

Anthony was hurt Monday in a victory at Orlando and hoped to play Wednesday, but the Knicks announced he would not be in uniform about 50 minutes before tipoff.

It's the first game this season missed for Anthony, who averages 26.3 points, second to Durant's 28.1. Anthony edged him to win last season's scoring title.

The Knicks did have Kenyon Martin, who had missed the previous five games with a strained abdominal muscle.
