Kendrick Perkins: 'We need a win like old people need soft shoes'
The Pelicans are off to an 0-3 start to the season, and they've lost the first three contests by 16, 18, and 14 points respectively.
Injuries and a lack of defensive cohesiveness are primarily to blame, and both of those issues are likely to be fixed as the season progresses -- which may explain why the team is able to remain in relatively good spirits despite the slower-than-expected start.
John Reid of NOLA.com sets the scene:
After Tuesday's shootaround session, the Pelicans' locker room was filled with good-natured humor, especially from center Kendrick Perkins.
Although Perkins is on the injured list with a pectoral injury, he strolled into the locker room after showering and shouted, ''We need a win like old people need soft shoes.''
In laughter, shooting guard Eric Gordon said that he didn't need to say anything else while in the middle of an interview. Just after the media was allowed into the locker room, Perkins and Davis were trading jokes about a music video playing on Davis' phone.
It's far too early in the season to panic, and Alvin Gentry is a players' coach who understands that things need not be taken all that seriously in order for a team to be able to turn things around.
