Kelly Olynyk denies trying to hurt Kevin Love intentionally
There are people in this world who love Kelly Olynyk: his mother, his family, his friends. Among that group is not a single Cleveland Cavaliers fan, presumably.
Olynyk and Kevin Love got tangled up on a rebound during Game 5 of the Celtics' and Cavaliers' first-round series, dislocating Love's shoulder and possibly sending him to the sidelines for the rest of the season. Cavs fans aren't happy. But even though Love has come out and called the play "bush league" while adding, "I have no doubt in my mind that he did it on purpose," (h/t to Yahoo! Sports), Olynyk insists nothing was intentional.
The Celtics big man sat down with the Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach to discuss the foul and the reaction:
“I’d love to obviously apologize to him for the misfortune and let him know it’s definitely not my intent, at all,” Olynyk told the Globe. “Just wish him well and hopefully he has a very speedy recovery and can come back and help that team win.”
There's more. Way more.
"I don't think I could dislocate someone's arm if I tried," Olynyk told Himmelsbach. "I think it's a real tough thing to do. Like I said before, it's kind of ridiculous to say you intentionally meant to. I'd never intentionally hurt someone, him or anybody else for that matter. I don't think anybody goes out trying to hurt anyone. I think it's just real unfortunate.
"If you get tangled up and he doesn't dislocate his shoulder, there's nothing dirty ever said or anything. It's just a foul. So, I really hope he can get back as soon as possible and help that team keep making a push."
