Kawhi Leonard and Tim Duncan made the All-Defensive teams
Kawhi Leonard and Tim Duncan were both named to the All-Defensive teams, which were recently announced by the league.
Leonard's inclusion on the first team was hardly a surprise, considering he's the 2014-15 Defensive Player of the Year, but the 39-year-old Duncan also squeezed in as a second-team forward. Here's San Antonio Express-News reporter Dan McCarney with more:
"Duncan joined New Orleans’ Anthony Davis, Chicago’s Jimmy Butler, Washington’s John Wall and Golden State’s Andrew Bogut on the second team. It marked the seventh time Duncan has made the second team. His 15 total selections are three more than any other player in NBA history. Duncan averaged 1.95 blocks per game this season, the most of any player aged 38 or older since the league began tracking blocked shots in 1973."
All this is remarkable, but unsurprising. Duncan is still a beast down low, and one of the most capable defensive anchors in NBA history. The only part worth debating is him not making the first team over Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan.
San Antonio's team defense was demonstrably better with Duncan than L.A.'s was with Jordan, and an easy case can be made for them switching spots. But second-team All-Defense is still pretty good.
