John Calipari, Kentucky close to contract extension
By Dan Lyons
There are rumors and speculation every offseason that John Calipari may leave Kentucky for the NBA but, if anything, his roots in Lexington are growing deeper.
According to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, Calipari is close to signing a one year, $8 million extension that will keep him in Lexington through 2022.
"Sources tell KSR, UK and Calipari close to extending his contract 1 year at $8M through 2022. He will earn a $1.6M longevity bonus on July 1," Jones reported on Twitter.
"Can confirm. Credit Matt. Signatures soon to complete deal. Never thought Calipari was off to NBA now," ESPN's Andy Katz confirmed.
This is great news for Kentucky fans, and bad news for fans of the programs that continue to lose recruiting battles to the ‘Cats.
