Jazz's Trey Burke 'hungry as I've ever been'
If you happen to run into Utah Jazz guard Trey Burke out and about this summer, don't refer to the time since the regular season ended as the "offseason." Because such a concept seemingly doesn't exist for the young point guard.
Last week, Burke took part in a conference call with Utah reporters, and he told the assembled group that he has nothing but motivation going into Jazz camp in the fall:
"Right now, I’m as hungry as I’ve ever been, to be honest with you," Burke said. Unfortuantely, that hunger led to a blocked shot by Hakeem Olajuwon during the NBA's first exhibition game in Africa over the weekend, in case you missed it:
But obligations like the trip to Africa won't stop Burke from working on his game and helping Utah push toward the playoffs next season.
"Look at my schedule, it seems like I’ve been very busy, which I have," Burke said. "At the same time, I make sure I find the time each and every day to get into the gym and work on my game."
The most important work for the Jazz from Burke could be on his 3-point shooting. It's tough for a point guard to find room to operate in the pick and roll if teams think they can go under the screen against him. And Burke is just a 32.4 percent career shooter from deep in two seasons. If he can get that number up, much of the rest of his development will follow.
